In The Open – Faoin Spéir
Existing in Dialogue, The Paper Cork
Workshop Series
- Workshop 1: 9/4/22 Lavit Gallery Cork
- Workshop 2: 11/4/22 Online
- Workshop 3: 18/4/22 Online
- Open MIC: 29/4/22 Wandesford Quay Courtyard
The aim of this three-part workshop is to create a dialogue around a work of art. The workshop is open to all interested participants, regardless of experience. Through exploring the ideas of art writing and ekphrasis, validation of alternative forms of criticism will be explored. The workshop’s output will be an amalgamation of the groups’ response to Roseanne Lynch’s exhibition Semblance at the Lavit Gallery. We will be engaging with ideas from Oscar Wilde the Critic as Artist (1891), The White Pube and the Oulipo movement. By creating an environment where a response can be responded to, we aim to foster a culture of discussion. The first workshop will involve a gallery visit to the Lavit Gallery, the second and third workshop we will be exploring key readings, discussing the Cork Art Scene, engaging in writing exercises and exploring modes of dissemination. Participants are invited to take part in the Open mic night event on Friday the 29th of April as part of Faoin Spéir art events at Wandesford Quay. The first workshop will take place Saturday 9th April at Wandesford Quay from 1pm-2pm. The second and third workshop will take place online on Monday 11th and 18th of April from 6pm-8pm. Email the.paper.cork@gmail.com to book your place.
The Paper is an online forum that discusses and responds to contemporary visual art events in Cork city and county. We recognise the effectiveness of the online world as an outlet and a space for open discussion. We aim to champion the real life art experience and foster a culture of reflection and engagement with the Cork Art Scene. Created by artists Sarah Long and Niamh Murphy, The Paper engages with a variety of different creatives and writers. Existing in Dialogue is supported by Backwater Artists Group, Cork Printmakers, the Lavit Gallery and Cork City Council Arts Office through the Arts Council of Ireland’s In The Open – Faoin Spéir award: A curated programme of multi-disciplinary, inclusive arts activities in community outdoor spaces running from July 2021-April 2022.
